Doing super hi-res work like this both intrigues me, and fills me with worry and stress. I'm intending this summer to get back on the saddle and do some similar stuff. Believe it or not your a big catalyst for it. (refering to LJ projects Gatsu and Fullmetal)
Looks great dude! The hair seems kind of flat, and the flat texture for the ringmail kind of detracts from the overall polish, but otherwise freakin astounding! Going in my 's.
Also, even though faux-3D textures with bump and lightmaps are awesome and all, don't rely too much on them to make dips and grooves in super-high poly models like this one. Kind of makes the model look gimmicky and plastic when you view the textures from an angle.
Yeah, I'm not too happy about the chainmail.. but it's cheap and fast. I opted for a lighter model since I knew rendering time was going to be pretty high. I was thinking a displacement map with work better, but in the early test it was painfully slow. Some sanity over quality is how I like to put it. XD
